Kate Chittenden

Kate Chittenden - print maker/ illustrator
Kate's work can be seen on her website
Kate is a printmaker/illustrator newly based in Somerset, having recently moved to the Shepton Mallet area.

In her final year of studying graphic design at college she won the Royal Society of Arts student design award enabling her to do research at leading studios in America. For several years she worked as a senior designer in a London consultancy before moving into education, teaching A Level, NVQ and Foundation Year graphics.

She started printmaking in 2016 at Morley College, London, and as an absolute beginner she was taught to experiment with many different techniques. Currently, she mostly produces pieces from linocuts, which are all handprinted, but has used drypoint, photolitho and monoprint techniques, and sometimes textures her work using elements of collage and chine collé.

Her work is inspired by natural forms and symmetry, either observed or imagined, and she often uses pattern and intricate detail in her designs.

Until recently, Kate was teaching printmaking for community workshops at Watts Gallery, Guildford.
