Jo's thoughts on the 2020 competition are:
"Winter is my favourite time to photograph landscapes, both sweeping and intimate, it is a time of contrasts when the bare bones of the earth are exposed. The low golden sunlight of early winter casts long shadows over barren fields edged with hedges filled with old man’s beard, umbellifer seed heads and skeleton trees. Ethereal mists draw in shrouding the fields and woodlands muting colours and evoking mystery. In mid-winter frosts and snow and ice transform the landscape blanketing the land in glistening whites and blues. The winter landscape conjures a sense of history, folklore and starkness but also holds within it the promise of spring to come, most brightly alluded to by the humble and resilient snowdrop."
Shortlisted images will be displayed in one of the festival venues and entrants will be invited to the presentation of prizes, and certificates for all three categories, which will take place on the afternoon of Saturday the 15th February 2020 in Shepton Mallet (venue and time to be confirmed).
All shortlisted participants will be notified in advance. The judges may also award a certificate and prize for best image from an entrant living in the Shepton Mallet area. |
All are welcome to this culmination of the competition and the occasion offers photographers and members of the public the opportunity to meet and enjoy each other’s achievements.
A list of the successful photographers together with their entries will be posted on the Shepton Mallet Snowdrop Festival website immediately after the conclusion of the festival. It is likely that the overall winner will also have their photograph also published in the local media. |
